In the wake of protests against misogyny in the White House, sexual abuse in the audition room, and police brutality against black people, the world is uniting as it realizes we are all one body, bound together by one thing – love. Not romantic love (it’s important not to be confused by that), but simply relationship. Connection.

Love is what every human being worships. It’s what we all live for and long for. It’s what makes us alive. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what you believe because it’s bigger, wider, brighter, greater and stronger than anything that divides us. It’s everything that unites us. And Jesus stands today as the Supreme of love. He represents the highest love: ‘there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friend’, writes the gospel writer John.

It’s for this reason that I look up to Jesus for how to live my life. Jesus broke the oppressing systems of the 1st century AD Jewish religious hierarchy and the Roman empire to open up the leveling power of love to every man, woman and child (it isn’t love unless it is EVERY man woman and child). Every beating heart. The most revolutionary change in human history. What a Saviour!
